Located in a residential area, Global Kids Tatekawa-en is surrounded on all sides by apartments and roads, which meant that extra attention had to be taken in providing the right environment for the children as well as the local residents. To address this, we created a “leafy shawl” that would gently wrap the building and the grounds using expanded metal fencing and greenery. The “shawl” wraps around the children in many ways such as by providing privacy, as a vegetable growing lattice, and even as something to play on, creating space for community engagement.
