Japanese Landscapes Intertwined by Lattices

KRISUMI CITY Phase 3, 4 & 7: Waterside Residences, Waterfall Suites II / The Cascades Club

Krisumi City is a visionary residential development brought to life by Krisumi Corporation, a joint venture between Japan’s Sumitomo Corporation and India’s Krishna Group. Located in Gurgaon, a thriving suburb of Delhi, this expansive 13-hectare project aims to create a vibrant urban community with approximately 2,770 residential units, complemented by commercial spaces, an office building and other facilities. Designed as a multi-phase endeavor, the development is set to be fully completed by 2030. From Phase 2 onward, STGK is proud to contribute to the project by leading the landscape design.

Phases 3, 4, and 7 of Krisumi City feature high-rise residential towers alongside a large-scale garden with a central expansive pond and a clubhouse. Designed as a gated community catering to affluent residents, we were tasked with designing a variety of outdoor amenities aimed at enriching the residents’ daily lives.

Krisumi City’s masterplan designated this area to be centered around the theme of “Lake,” combined with strong directives from management to incorporate elements of “Japanese aesthetics.” In response, the landscape design reimagines the traditional Japanese strolling pond garden in a modern context. Central to this design is a large water feature, with the surrounding area divided into thematic zones — ‘Water-scape,’ ‘Mountain-scape,’ ‘Glove-scape,’ and ‘Seashore-scape’ — each inspired by the architectural and interior concepts of the surrounding towers. Each area is thoughtfully defined by planting compositions and landscaping elements that align with its concept, creating a garden where residents can stroll through ever-changing landscapes across the property.

The main water feature is designed as a dynamic sequence, starting with a kids’ pool upstream, flowing into a kids’ stream, transitioning into an ornamental pond, and finally culminating in a collection of pools. Surrounding this water feature, the green spaces are enriched with mounded terrain for visual variety. At key focal points, landscape stones, symbolic trees, and garden pavilions are placed to anchor the view and create moments of tranquility within the diverse scenery.

The overall landscape design is unified under the concept of a “Lattice Garden,” where lattice-like pathways are layered to divide the space into smaller and larger segments. Within these divisions, various amenities are seamlessly integrated, including gardens, rest areas, pools, an amphitheater, kids’ parks, and a tennis court. The lattice framework is intentionally disrupted in places—angled, fragmented, or staggered — to introduce dynamic visual experiences as residents move through the space. These intentional breaks in the structure create moments where sightlines shift — opening and closing — producing an interplay of perspectives that enriches the garden’s aesthetic and invites discovery. The design emphasizes both the diversity of landscapes at ground level and the unified beauty visible from the upper floors of the surrounding high-rises, ensuring these two elements coexist harmoniously.

A Welcoming Garden Embodying the Beauty and Serenity of Japan – The Cascades Club

“The Cascades Club” is a members-only clubhouse that serves as the symbolic entrance to the Krisumi City development. Offering a wide array of activities, including dining, spa treatments, and sports, the facility is designed to provide a refined social environment and moments of tranquility, with spaces crafted to embody the highest standards of quality.
The architecture is themed around “Cascades,” with cascading terraces that express the rhythm of flowing water. At the basement, a pool garden inspired by the concept of a “waterfall basin” is planned to further enhance the theme. Gentle sounds of water resonate throughout the lounge, while the greenery of a bamboo garden sways gently in the breeze, creating a serene and open semi-outdoor environment.
At the drop-off area, visitors are greeted by a garden featuring landscape stones and flowing water, evoking a dignified sense of hospitality. The banquet hall is seamlessly connected to a garden adorned with mounded terrain and carefully arranged stone compositions, portraying a distinctly Japanese landscape. By blending Japanese aesthetics with contemporary sensibilities, the architecture and landscape design are organically intertwined, creating a rich and tranquil welcoming space. Here, amidst the urban setting, visitors are enveloped by the essence of nature.
