Yokohama Motomachi has long been a bustling port city, and even today is known for its mixed culture atmosphere, such as the cityscape that hints outside world influences, and being the birthplace of Western-style furniture in Japan.
Based on the “Town Development Book” created together with the residents of the town in the previous year, we converted parts of the parking strip on the “Motomachi Shopping Street” and installed three “Motomachi Parklets,” where we aimed to provide visitors with comfortable places to stay and enjoy walking along this historical shopping street.
We have also renovated the stone paving of the road to improve walking comfort, and information boards, lighting poles, bollards, and planters were re-designed and updated, while retaining the original design that gave Motomachi its unique character.
